Objective / Mission Statement:

The South American Network for Environmental Migrations is a pioneering initiative of articulation of experts, researchers and practitioners to include the environmental migration in the public agenda of the region, contributing to the development and integration of public policies, strategies and legislation on climate change, disasters, migration and human rights, with a view to full protection of displaced people and communities.

Key activities relevant to PDD:
  • Mapping of evidence, data collection and experiences related to the impacts of environmental changes on human mobility in the region;
  • Generation of knowledge through the production of publications and empirical research;
  • Development of strategies, policies and regulations to respond appropriately to the challenges of environmental migration at the global, regional and national levels, with an integrated approach between migration, climate change, disasters and human rights;
  • Promotion of dialogue and cooperation with public and private actors, international organizations, academia and civil society organizations;
  • Training and capacity building of policy makers, decision-makers and other stakeholders on the issue.
