Cross-Border Movements During Times of Disaster – Capacity Building Workshop Series to Support Eastern Caribbean Countries

Since September 2022 and until next November, the Platform on Disaster Displacement (PDD) has been engaging and supporting a series of virtual and face-to-face national capacity building workshops on ‘cross border movements during times of disaster’ organized by the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Commission in Grenada, St Kitts and Nevis, St Vincent and the Grenadines, St Lucia, Anguilla, British Virgin Islands and Montserrat, Antigua and Barbuda and Dominica.

OECSSo far PDD and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) have delivered two joint sessions on data and evidence on disaster displacement in the Caribbean for more than forty participants from Saint Lucia, Grenada, St Kitts and Nevis, St Vincent and the Grenadines, featuring a special presentation on data and displacement trends in the Caribbean from the Internal Displacement Monitoring Center (IDMC). The sessions aimed to deepen understanding and enable the transmission of knowledge on cross-border displacement issues with a focus on contemporary issues in the Eastern Caribbean.

The workshop series is organized by the OECS Commission in partnership with GIZ, CARICOM IMPACS, UNHCR, IOM and PDD and cover a wide range of topics, including regional frameworks and actors, data and evidence on disaster displacement in the Caribbean, community mental and psychosocial support in Emergencies and displacement, mixed flow in the Caribbean, among others.
