Central America – First Regional Pilot of the eLearning Tool on the ‘Words into Action’ Guidelines on Disaster Displacement
Central America, 25-29 January 2021 – This week, government representatives from all seven member countries of the Central American Coordination Center for the Prevention of Natural Disasters (CEPREDENAC) took part in a first regional pilot of the eLearning tool based on the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) ‘Words into Action’ Guidelines on Disaster Displacement. This includes representatives from Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama.
The workshop included two zoom sessions and short exercises on the subject of human mobility in the context of disasters and climate change, the UNDRR ‘Words into Action’ (WiA) Series and the content, aims and structure of the WiA Guide on disaster displacement and its accompanying Checklist, all available in Spanish.
The more than thirty participants also had the opportunity to test a new eLearning tool based on the WiA Guide as first-time users. The eLearning is an educational tool to enhance knowledge on disaster displacement and provide DRR practitioners and other interested actors with interactive modules, case studies and relevant materials. After this piloting phase with CEPREDENAC, the eLearning tool will be publicly launched and made available free of charge to all interested learners towards the second quarter of 2021.
This first pilot was possible thanks to a collaboration between CEPREDENAC, the Platform on Disaster Displacement (PDD), the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) and the Norwegian Refuge Council (NRC), with generous support from Germany.
