UNHCR Event – Moving Forward on the Frontlines of the Climate Emergency
As the world bears witness to the most severe drought in recent history in the Horn of Africa, and unprecedented flooding in Pakistan, more and more people – invariably those who contribute the least to climate change and are the most vulnerable to its impacts – are searching for safety in the face of growing climate-related risks.
In the context of the annual meeting of the Executive Committee of the High Commissioner’s programme (ExCom), UNHCR is holding a side event on the topic of “Moving Forward on the Frontlines of the Climate Emergency: Building Resilience for Displaced Persons and Vulnerable Communities”.
During this side event, high level representatives of hosting countries and operations will discuss how they are preparing for and responding to recurrent climate shocks; identifying common challenges, innovative solutions, and additional support needs to enhance assistance and protection outcomes for displaced people and build more resilient hosting communities.
The event will take place in person on Monday 10 October 2022, from 13:30-14:45 Geneva time at UNHCR in Room XXV. Interpretation in English and French will be available.
