Research Report – Climate Change Impacts and Mobility in the Middle East

Mohammad Asfour, Lucy Hovil (2004) – Mixed Migration Centre (MCD)

This report, published by the Mixed Migration Centre, assesses the state of knowledge on climate change impacts on mobility in the Middle East (including Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, United Arab Emirates and Yemen) and provides a foundation for further research to fill evidence gaps for policy and programming. It draws together current understanding of how climate change impacts are likely to change the existing numbers and dynamics of internal and cross-border migration, including whether this impact is likely to prompt increased movement and, if so, what kind; and explores what effect climate change impacts are having on existing migrant and displaced populations.
