Protection in Law and Practice: Regional and Global Engagement on Displacement in the Context of Climate Change

This side event aims to update ExCom Member States on the work of States, UNHCR and other partners to advance international protection in the context of climate change and disasters, including notably in the context of regional efforts in the Americas and Africa. It will will take place on 15 October 2024 from 13:30-14:45 in Room XXVI, Palais des Nations, Geneva.

This event will discuss ways to advance the Protection of Persons in the Event of Disasters (PPED) and the integration of relevant principles into international frameworks and humanitarian efforts. It will provide an opportunity to discuss how common legal problems impact people affected or displaced in the context of disasters and identify possible solutions to improve protection. This discussion will be moderated by Mr Niels Annen, Parliamentary State Secretary of German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
