Challenges and Insights

The MENA region is increasingly affected by floods and droughts, while being the most water scarce region in the world. Disasters, climate change and environmental degradation will have an impact on human mobility patterns. However, no comprehensive legal and political frameworks are available in the MENA region to prevent and protect from the adverse effects of disasters, climate change and environmental degradation.

This report by EuroMed Rights identifies three main challenges in this context, namely a climate challenge, a political challenge and a legal challenge. Enriched through interviews with relevant stakeholders, the report urges the EU, its Member States, countries of the MENA regions and civil society organizations to take concrete steps towards the recognition and protection of human mobility in the context of disasters, climate change and environmental degradation
