How Can the UNFCCC and Loss and Damage Mechanism Catalyze Lasting Solutions to Displacement in the Context of Climate Change? – Side Event at COP29
At the occasion of the 2024 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29), the the Refugee Law Initiative (RLI), the Internal Displacement Monitoring Center (IDMC), and the Platform on Disaster Displacement (PDD) are pleased to invite you to attend our side event entitled “How can the UNFCCC and Loss and Damage Mechanism Catalyse Lasting Solutions to Displacement in the Context of Climate Change?” that will take place on 13 November 2024 from 11:30-12:30 at IOM Pavilion, Blue zone, Baku Stadium, Baku, Azerbaijan.
What can Loss and Damage mechanisms learn from durable solutions work in countries facing displacement and the impacts of climate change? What experiences and support can intergovernmental agencies contribute to the mainstreaming of “durable solutions” across UNFCCC and at the State level?
This event will explore the intersection between the policy and operational agendas on Loss and Damage and Durable Solutions and discuss overlaps and synergies in the development of the Loss and Damage architecture. The panel discussion will build on important themes in the just-published brief, It’s Time for Solutions: Addressing Displacement and Other Human Mobility Challenges in the Context of Climate Change Loss and Damage.
