Update on the Implementation Plan for the Pacific Regional Framework on Climate Mobility – Side Event at COP29

At the occasion of the 2024 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29), the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS), Pacific Climate Change Migration and Human Security (PCCMHS) Partners), and the Platform on Disaster Displacement (PDD) are pleased to invite you to attend our side event entitled “Update on the Implementation Plan for the Pacific Regional Framework on Climate Mobility” that will take place on 14 November 2024 from 11:30-12:30 at IOM Pavilion, Blue zone, Baku Stadium, Baku, Azerbaijan.

The Pacific Regional Framework on Climate Mobility was endorsed at the 52nd Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting in 2023 in the Cook Islands. The Framework recognizes the urgent need to strengthen understanding, coordination and cooperation on climate change-related human mobility, establishment of adequate rights-based response and support mechanisms to people at risk, and adoption of  a proactive approach to address climate mobility to enhance Pacific resilience and well-being.

This side event will take stock of progress in developing the Framework implementation plan and to seize opportunities action at the national level through enhanced technical assistance, financing, capacity building and data support. The side event will share Pacific perspectives and lived experiences to emphasize the urgency of averting, minimizing and addressing loss and damage.
